Hi,
thinking about what is currently available, let's discuss what we'd need to get a dream environment One of the challenges when doing onset grading is having to deal with all cameras outputting different types of signal. Working with something like Pomfort LiveGrade or Colorfront OSD Live grading simplifies the process as you can load per camera IDTs, but I'd much rather like to see ACES Proxy (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nt9z9m6utzvkc5m/AADWJYYokLVQfTinQ1_ZO_9Va/ACESproxy_v1.1.pdf?dl=0) implemented directly in cameras' SDI output, so we could mix all of that into something that would already be managed between different cameras, then this would translate perfectly into ACES Log for finals.
So what would you like to see as next steps for ACES workflow?

I got a wish list :-)
I wrote a long reply...... but somehow lost it when posting to this forum:
While ACES Proxy is a good "stop gap" and I too would like this to happen onboard the cameras.... even if it is just the IDT that is processed onboard, it would be nice to find a more permanent and technologically compatible image transmission than SDI.
I am alarmed at the lethargic pace at which HD-SDI is developing and these new standards are not being adopted. 6 Gig and `12 Gig HD-SDI is available yet no real adoption other than Black Magic and then only for master recording.
So why hold back the entire industry when we could solve this right now.
Adoption of DP (Display Port 1.3) and HDMI 2.0. by the camera companies would make life a lot easier. Both of these formats already support Deep Colour @ 36 Bits and 48 bits PPM which translates to 12 bit Per Colour Component and of course 16 Bit per Colour Component respectively. Both of which would make ACES processing a lot more accurate and simplified.
This would open the door for a proper standardised ACES image processors and the application of the CDL to the ACES Colour pre RRT and Post IDT.
If the camera can apply the IDT to this output and ALL the Colouring Systems like SCRATCH, RESOLVE, Live GRADE etc could wirelessly transmit the CDL values to the image processor on a standardised protocol then the results of these Colour decisions could be Monitored Live out of the HD-SDI 10/12bit colour down scaled outputs for distribution of the final image via conventional HD-SDI equipment to Rec 709 compliant monitoriing.
The image Processor has DP and HDMI in and HD-SDI, DP and HDMI outputs. Choose your own colour chain and customise your colour management to suit your designs, displays and needs. With this sort of support System mounted on the camera offering an iimage processor similar to IS Mini sized would be happily accommodated onboard the camera.
This is what I would like to see adopted and standardised.... waiting for the new HD-SDI standards to improve is fruitless, and using ACES proxy feels like a temp solution.
Considering that this will most likely not happen the way I want it to I would like the next best thing which is full ACES Proxy processing onboard the cameras with an option for CDL manipulation via wireless port and a standardised protocol for the CDL values to be transmitted.
Kind regards.
